  • Hidden and Locked Out HRD Features

    After reading the latest HRD Newsletter, I discovered something I didn't know about HRD. That fact being if you're not a yearly subscriber to HRD, there may be hidden and new features that are locked out of your copy of HRD.

    As stated in the Newsletter:

    "As for features, we do – and will – hide or lock out certain features after the expiration of Software Maintenance and Support (SM&S). At the end of your SM&S period the software does everything you need it to do, you’re not interested in any new features, and you don’t need direct access to our technical support team… please, just keep current with the software versions. It costs you nothing to get those bug fixes. After the SM&S expiration – whether 1 day or several years later – we release features you’d like to use, you will always have the option to obtain another 12 months of SM&S at the same renewal rate. This will get you completely caught-up with all features and any new features released up to your new SM&S expiration."

    So here are my questions regarding the SM&S program:
    • How do I find out what features are hidden and locked out of my copy of HRD from the time my SM&S expired?
    • How are these features hidden and locked out?
    • Are features hidden and locked out according to my status on HRD's server, and if I buy a new SM&S will those features automatically be unlocked without downloading a new copy of HRD?
    • This brings me back to my first question, when I buy a new SM&S, how do I know the new features have truly been unlocked and where to find them?

    I keep my service up to date, but you did bring up some interesting points. I also thought about this when I read the release. Are the features just grayed out where you can't access them or if hidden, how do you know if they have been activated? I feel, I have all of the features, but now I wonder if the system works as they want.

    I upload to eQSL & HRDNet automatically in HRD. LoTW, ClubLog, DAILY and send my cards to the Bureau MONTHLY.
    Why doesn't everybody do this? It's so much easier than having to work through hundreds (or thousands) of log entries once or twice a YEAR.
