  • HRD Rotator hangs after some seconds

    Hello OM´s and YL´s,
today I installed the new Version after stable use of for many weeks.
After setting up and starting the HRDRotator, the program does not respond after a few seconds.
Going back to the HRDRotator.exe (780) all works fine again.
I am using Windows7 32-bit with the ERC interface in YAESU mode at serial port.
Has someone the same problem after upgrading?

I got the same setup and problem like DL2KBQ. It takes between 5 and 10 minutes after the HRD Rotator program crashes. I have also a HAM IV rotator with an ERC-Controller attached to COM3 on the computer. After a new start of the HRD Rotator application the program works again.
Any idea how this can be fixed?

HRD Rotator has been problematic for a long time, HRD are aware of the issues and I was informed a couple of updates ago that they are looking into a complete rewrite of the code.

I have spent many hours looking into temporary workarounds, but it seems to be a core error in HRD Rotator and not just an incompatibility with an external source such as the Windows version, type of serial port, the rotor model or the emulation your controller is set to.

This of course is little comfort for those who experience problems (for me the program is 90% unusable) the only workaround is to either go back to using your rotor manually (in my case not something I can do due to only having computer control) or to use an external program to control it (I currently use N1MM rotor)

I would urge everyone with issues to either open a ticket or report an issue so that HRD can have a better understanding of how widespread this issue is, this will I'm sure encourage HRD to push the fix up the list so to speak.

Yet again since 780, the latest release (806) of the HRDRotator.exe application has failed to function properly by locking up for no reason after an hour or so of running and especially when trying to exit "X" out of the program, it hangs up and must be forced to close. I'm now back to running 806 with 780 HRDRotator.exe and all is good. 787 was the first time in many versions that the rotator failed to function properly. So glad I have kept all versions of HRD since almost the beginning so many years ago. Another support ticket has been created by me. This is at least the 3rd one in recent times.

I am fully frustrated now, because all hope for a stable version is gone with the latest realease The rotator.exe stops working after 10s - 30s latest.
The hrdlogbook.exe hangs after 30 minutes to one hour. I am back to 787 und 780 for the rotator.exe.
Why can´t they correct this issue? It´s getting worser and worser!
The 780/787 combination is stable, the whole day! All after is a big mess!
Tomorrow I will start a ticket, hope someone helps.

The problem with that my Prosistel D rotor stopped was due to the RS232 to USB Converter which was installed at the Prosistel D control box. The USB cable was too long for your computer and caused transmission problems. I have now connected the RS232 to USB converter at the computer and installed an extension cable serial DB9 between the converter and Prosistel control box. Now the Prosistel rotor works without problems.

The same here with my equipment. The communication between my Rotor and the HRD Rotator program is stable now.
