  • How to set up SMS for Spot alarms

Hi all, I'd like to set up an alarm in the DX Cluster Options and I have set up an alarm to send an SMS, but I don't know how it knows what my phone number is. I don't recall setting it up. In case you haven't guessed, I'm a rank newbee. Thanks & 73, Jim W3FAW

3 years and no answer for this. Does anybody have one?

Yes, but it’s not very intuitive and requires a good knowledge of mail servers and how they operate. I’ll try to get you the information tomorrow but right now the room where I have my Ham station is being occupied by some out of town company.

This SMS function is in the process of being removed. It requires a modem and a phone line. Most folks have abandoned modems (and often, phone lines).

So the way to get to the same capability is by sending an email to your cell phone's SMS or MMS email address. You then use the email alarm to accomplish the same thing.

In the USA, here's a page that describes how to figure out what your SMS and/or MMS email address is for your phone. (I use this and prefer the formatting of MMS over SMS. I think you will too.)
